Team Bacon

Team Bacon was coined by my Dad as our family grouped together to handle everything life throws in the way. It’s become a symbol of my Dad’s ability to bring people together, spread joy, do mad things and help people, especially Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The dream team: Team Bacon

9th February 2020

One of the things I’m very grateful for is my family, better known as Team Bacon. In Addenbrooks hospital when my Dad was diagnosed with brain cancer, he said, “We’re Team Bacon, Team Bacon can get through anything.”  That pretty much sums up my Dad; a ridiculous sense of optimism in an annoying but charming […]

Uh, what happened to that run?

19th October 2019

Last Sunday I was stood in the pouring rain in a metal pen waiting for my first half marathon to start. I’d had a pre-race snack, a pocket full of jelly babies and a brighter poncho than my future. Five minutes passed, ten minutes passed… after almost forty minutes, my friend called me to tell […]

Why I’m running a half marathon

4th October 2019

In just over a week’s time I will be running my first half marathon, the Perkins Great Eastern Run in memory of my Dad for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. I briefly spoke on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire about why I’m running the half, with two other fantastic runners doing the Great Eastern this year. With […]

Cancer, Cornettos, Kindness

16th February 2016

The C word – Cancer – is something that unfortunately everyone is touched by it at some point in their life. For me, it was my Dad, my hero, 1/4 of the family team. It’s two years since he passed away and three years since he was diagnosed with brain cancer, but anyone who’s bereaved […]

The Official Opening of Thorpe Hall Hospice

10th September 2015

It’s official, the new Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall hospice in Peterborough is open! It so strange to think that after two years there is a new Thorpe Hall that’s replaced, my Thorpe hall. I sort of forgot when I was making speeches and fundraising that it was going to replacing my Thorpe Hall. Of course the […]
