Exploring Yorkshire with Franky

exploring yorkshire

Franky and I love to procrastinate and explore Yorkshire, the further away we can get from our work the better, it seems. Our adventures began after exams, before that the most adventurous thing was a Gatehouse coffee revision sesh instead of going to the library to have a tuna mayo jacket potato, standard.

So we branched out, walked the walls and went to Gatehouse to sit outside and do some revision in the sunshine as why not right?

After exams were over though, we were outta York like a flash and reading to explore Yorkshire.

I’d like to point out that we never actually plan to go anywhere, we just say “ooh lets go for lunch” and usually end up at Nando’s. I’m pretty sure we’d had a Nando’s before we went round Yorkshire too. Then we um-ed and ah-ed about what to do and instead of overthinking it, I just started driving.

We ended up in the picturesque village of Helmsley and had some ice cream in the square, before having a little mosey round the shops.

Helmsley is very quaint but also really small, so you can explore the whole village in sub 20 minutes. I would highly recommend the castle though, which I looked round a few weeks before this with my family. After this we didn’t really want to head back to York yet so went further into the Yorkshire dales.

I drove us all the way to Scarborough so we could go on the beach and paddle in the sea. By this time the tide was completely in so the option was being sprayed by the waves hitting the pavement, or dunk in the sea at waist height.

We went for the former. Not so idyllic.

Then we wandered around, had a look at the amusements and in all the seaside shops, and obviously took lots of photos, as have you met Franky? That girl loves taking photos… as do I.

The only downside of our adventures and exploring Yorkshire especially windy beaches is that Franky is a real life goddess on earth. I mean it’s okay, I just accept that I’m going to be the pale-probably-have-my-eyes-closed-partner in crime.

PS. I’m really sad that I can’t include boomerangs in my blogs, as Franky’s life revolves around a good “boomy”. I have around 50 from the past two months alone.

Have you explored Yorkshire before?
